Week 2 of objects as history was about the Indus valley and Harrapan civilizations.

ACTIVITY:

Tooth brush holder –

A tooth brush holder pot revealed to be a 4000 year old artifact, found to be depicting the Indus valley civilization.

It was discovered and picked up by one of the professional antique valuer, Karl martin in a local car- boot sale in the midlands.

He saw these 2 pots and purchased the same and later was wondering what he should do with, and went and kept it in his bathroom as an antique brush holder.

Since then this pot was called the car boot brush holder antique pot, from the Indus valley civilization.

A lot of research was done for the same and research says:

  • Its an item dated back from the 1900 BC.

  • Its design and style of piece indicated that it was from the Indus valley civilization.

The professions that have been involved to make this pot according to me could be:

  • Potter,
  • Clay baker,
  • Clay collector
  • The one who has made the prints on the pot
  • The one who has made and provided the ink or colour to print figures on the pot.

We were given an activity to pick any one object or artefact from the Indus valley civilization study about it  and guess and mention the possible professions  which made the object.

The reason why I chose this pot the shape and look of the pot and the they it was been re-discovered after so many years interested me a lot.

The shape, colour and print was very unusual, and wasn’t seen in the other pots
