Sustainable systems 2,3: 23.1.20- Kanika sharma

Week 2 and 3 was a combination of 2 classes.

We started with a recap of what happened in the first class, we discussed through those and summarized all that we had learnt so far.

We also promised to overcome and improvise that one habit or least sustainable activity we do in our daily life, which I am following which was about I forget to switch of the lights and fans of the room when its not in use or when I am not there, which dedicatedly  don’t forget now, and I hope it stays forever.

We then started with a new topic which was ecosystem:

What is an ecosystem?

An ecosystem is a large community of living organisms in a particular area. Their living and physical components are linked together on the basis of certain factors.

The balance of the 3 pillars of a sustainable system, which are- environment, economy and social will lead to a successful ecosystem.

The ecosystem can be also termed as the co-relation, interdependency, interaction and existence between the factors and various elements of a system.

We then discussed how the 3 pillars of a sustainable system are also interdependent with an ecosystem:

We took our class as an example in which we listed down the social , economic and environmental aspects such as:

Social:

  • Heirarachy
  • Respect
  • Norms
  • Diversity
  • Interaction
  • Sharing information
  • Relations

Economic:

  • Exchange of value
  • Balance in exchange

We saw how every aspect are inter- related

Post that the second half of our class was about the introduction to our new project which was some what related to the large aspect of ecosystem.

We were all divided in groups and each group was given a topic, which were the goals of a UN for sustainable development.

The topic that me and my group got was responsible consumption and production  : we had to do a detailed study of our topics, understand them in great lengths, we had to make visual representation of them, in which we had to collect information as to how we as an individual positively, or negatively contribute to the topic, then find out the same for our immediate family and neighbours.

We had to do a detailed study keeping the entire ecosystem, visually represent them visually through infographs or ppt’s.

Our project was called aware citizens, the topics that each group was given were basically  UN goals for sustainable development of our country.

We started are research as to what consumption and production was, what responsible consumption and production? We also went through the official site of the UN Sustainable development goals to study more about the goals and what they had to say about responsible consumption and production as an individual.
