Time :
Todays time class started with a recap of our previous class. We then continued with understanding the set and maat concept where according to the Egyptians rule of law every night the good which is the maat defeats the evil which is set and starts a new day every morning.
We then got to how days explains passages of time and how every day is named after various gods like:
Monday- magni / modi
Tuesday – tiwaz
Wednesday- woden
Thursday- thor
Friday- Frigga
Saturday- surtr etc.
We then discussed how time is represented in different regions, and through different methods:
- ASIAN: the Asian representations of time is the their Dharamachakra
- The second representation of time that we discussed was the father time , also known as the personification of time , where an old bearded man carrying and hour glass or a device used to measure time depicting the passage of time.
- I think passage of time means how time passes by with significant changes.
We then discussed how can passage of time be depicted :
I always thought passage of time can be depicted through clocks, hour glass, calendar, through counting fingers, and basic stuff and was always was constrained to think in that direction.
Post our discussion in our class and after sir giving us and example, it opened my thought process and gave me a better understanding , that there are so many ways to represent time, time is a very vast concept and can be show through so many ways.
Passage of time is where you notice a relevant change, where you see some process happening and where you you understand that as time passes by these changes have taken place or our noticed.
Just like sir gave an example, a simple leaf growing from a small seed, turning bright green and huge, and starts fading and as time passes the leaf withers. This process itself shows passage of time.
We were then given an activity to do where we list down 3 ways of depicting passage of time:
- The rising of the sun in the east, then the sun being rite above our head in the afternoon right at 12 depicting noon and then setting in the west shows how time passes by in an entire day.
- The various change seen in one’s life span where one goes through different stages with change in ages called by certain time can show passage of time ,like
A baby- to infant- to toddler- to a pre-schooler- to grade schooler – to a teen- to a young adult- to a perfect adult – then old age. Shows how one changes in simple terms like age with passage of time.
- The last I thought of the change seen in modes of exchange, what we call as money today , where it developed from barter system- to coins- to paper notes- to plastic money , what you call as debit to credit cards.
We then had to select one final example out of the 3 and get 7-10 pictures of the same explaining your example. Only through photo graphs.
