Integrative studio 2/3 : 13.1.20- Parthana patil/ vedant sharma

Todays studio class was about watching a movie with intent to learn something from it , then understanding from it and carrying it forward for our next class project.

We watched a movie called AMILIE. A vintage film in Paris, named after a girl in the movie who has been a lonely kid since childhood, stayed at home, had no friends whose mother died when she was little and has lived all alone with her ocd father.

Then grown up to be a curious child, had always been a keen observer, also is a big time dreamer, has been empathetic towards others problems, have helped a lot of people , keeping her identity secret .

The movie revolved around lot of edit , filter lighting according the situation, has  also revolved around the girl and what she does, the film also talks a lot about the shooting of the film being done in a very chaotic manner where at once it was a close shot and the next moment it’s a wide shot shown, talks about the picturization style too.

We had to jot down pointers about what we feel the film is about and what all we noticed in the film.

We then were given an assignment to do which was capturing 12 pictures and printing them out in a5 size using the gestalts principle , with 2 pictures per principle and keeping the key words of the film in mind.

We started week 3 with a revision as to what happened in the last class, post which we also discussed about what we were doing in the seminar class, we then discussed about Italo Calvino.

We discussed how is writing skills included a lot of abstraction, how few of his writing works were based on his past experiences, how he uses a lot of story telling methods in his writings. Also how creatively he has described Venice the city in 55 ways.

we discussed about the book invisble cities in detail to understand and brainstorm as to what the book was about.

We then did a short activity in class, which was to jot down the unique points of any chapter/ city we have read of:

  • ZOBIEDE-

A city based on a tale,

A city whose foundation was based on a dream, it was a weirdly constructed trap like city.

  • EUSAPIA-

A city which takes a leap from life to death in less abrupt manner.

  • ZEMRUDE:

A city which gets its form from the beholders

A city which takes form based on how one see’s it, or based on one’s mood,

A city is seen in different perspective which is hard to determine which one is truer than the other.

We then were given another activity, in which we had to pick any 5 cities and make 3 iterations each as to what you think that city is about after reading about the same.
