Objects in history can be certain period objects, it can denote certain turning point in history, various artifacts denotes history, museums define history.
Objects can also be defined as visual culture which means, culture or things that are meant to be seen , somethings which is visually seen.
Objects in history can also be defined by its art of that period, art can be in the form of discoveries made, materials found in that period, its considered as a symbol to record history, to capture its culture and creation of its time.
History as design can talk about the discoveries in design of that period, it can talk about its origin, it helps in understanding of what was done in the past, it also tells about the past progress and changes/ geneology.
We largely understood as to what objects mean , what objects as history mean and how history as design is connected and evolved.
We also the first object that was designed or made through explorations were tools, how tools were made and how they kept on improvising according to their needs.
We understood as to what materials and techniques were used to make the same.
We then had an exercise to research about various tools in the respective period which were Paleolithic period
Neolithic period
And the Charcolithic period.
RESEARCH:
PALEOLITHIC PERIOD:
- Simple shaped tools were made in this period
- They started from basic stones and pebbles
- They made tools such as needles from bones
- Harpoon tool was made for fishing
- Hand axe
- Scrapper
- Spear thrower used to throw javelins
- Arrow heads etc
NEOLITHIC PERIOD :
- Tools in this period developed a little more and were advanced
- There were well shaped bow and arrows
- Skint knife
- Sickle
- Plough
- Blades were made
- Polished axes
CHARCOLITHIC PERIOD:
- Was also called the copper age
- This was marked as the era of transition from stone to metal tools
- There was large scale copper production noticed
- Copper axe head tools were made.
- Moulds were used to make tools and weapons in this period.
It gave me a better understanding as to how history and design are connected, how design in terms of small things like tools evolved and kept developing, how the they are preserved to mark art of that period.
