Week 12 of drawing class was about understanding our project in detail, which was creating a zine of yours.
We were explained as to what zines are and what goes into its making, we were understanding as to what topics can be chosen to make a zine on.
We had a general class discussion where all of us were trying to understand as to what topic can be considered while making the zines.
Initially it was a little difficult to understand the topics, as we haven’t worked on such a project before.
We first learnt what a zine was? Zine: A zine is a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via photocopier. Zines are the product of either a single person or of a very small group, and are popularly photocopied into physical prints for circulation.
It can be on any topic , it can be on any aspect, it could be completely pictorial also, and could be a comic format also. It could give a strong message, it could be something on a social message it could be simple , could be complicated, it could just be anything.
As soon as we got that right , we started listing down a few topics on which we could make our zines. A few topics that came to mind were:
- 8 wonders of the world
- A complete food photography zine, pictures clicked y me,
- A travel zine
- And a zine based on Bollywood.
The topic that interested me more was a zine based on Bollywood .As when it comes to movies and songs I am totally a bollywood girl.
I came up with a rough draft which stated best superhit films, with the actor/ actresses sketch along with their famous dialogue from a time period of 2000-2019. We then got a chance to one by one go and discuss our ideas with sir to get his feedback and inputs to take the topic further. As it was my turn for discussion , I learnt that someone from some other section is doing a zine based on the exact same topic.
After further discussion I told sir I really wanted to make a zine based on Bollywood, and that’s when he said I could choose other aspects of Bollywood, something like costumes, music, or some specific character etc.
That’s when I got an idea about what I could do differently for my zine. I chose to select ‘ BABURAO’ a famous character of the Bollywood movie ‘phir hera pheri’ in different actors costumes and in different timelines, delivering the same dialogue but in his unique style.
Eg : Baburao in Krish movie playing Hrithik Roshans character in the same costume but delivering the dialogue in his unique style.
I was given a go ahead with this topic and further worked upon it.
We had to make a few rough sketches, to understand how it would look,We had to sketch the characters, and design the layouts.
The project sounded fun and interesting ,very different from what we had done earlier, it was an exciting start.
