Design Drawing 2: 9.8.19- Jai Ranjit

The second session of drawing class was all about gestural sketch and gestural drawing.Gesture is nothing but actions, signs, movement and way of expressing emotions.

Sketches are incomplete works of a final drawing, they are a rough outline of the theme of a drawing, they are not supposed to be neat yet they should give you an idea of what the drawing is about.

Whereas drawings are a final completed version of a sketch with complete details and a final outcome.

Gestural sketches and drawing aim to show a flow and a rhythm to picture or drawing, its just not shapes, lines, patterns and textures making a picture .But a complete and good drawing is one in which there is some emotion and flow to it which makes it a meaningful and complete one.The medium we used for gestural sketches in class were HB pencil for a base and then charcoal to give a sort of darker and fair idea.

Self Reflection: The exercise in class gave me a clear understanding of what a sketch and drawing means, how to capture a flow of a picture , it gave me a check and understanding of how time management is very important while doing a sketch or painting in any medium, also helped in building up my confidence in sketching human body postures, gestures and facial expressions.
