INTRODUCTION TO MATERIALS: everything I see around me is made of some or the other material. Materials according to me can be largely defined as substances made up of different types which basically helps in making up an object, product or an outcome.
CLASS DISCUSSION:The first session of space and materiality gave me an understanding on how materials are incorporated with spaces.And it gave me a thought that how strange it is, when we never actually notices or give it a thought on what goes into an object or product is basically materials, and we never pay attention to the features of a material which is an actual source of all. Like the brainstorming on glass and its types, or the plastic compass pouch and its features which we had in class.
Materials can be distinguished based on their make, process, strength, ductility, malleability, appearance, elasticity etc.
Types of materials
- Natural materials – eg: cotton,rubber
- Engineered materials- eg: metals,reinforced concrete Polymers materials – eg: nylon,Teflon
- Composite materials
- Processed materials
- Manmade materials
ASSIGNMENT: Create a material board with 20 – 30 samples of different types of materials categorized under its type with properties ?

SELF REFLECTION: Post this assignment I understood how materials are categorized according to their properties, it helped me to see objects according to the materiality perspective and understand its proerties as well as its quality.
